Day to day, I:
Engage with businesses, big or small, at any level, to help them in whatever way they need, to grow that business.
I provide information advice and guidance and give them the benefit of my experience.
I have 30+ years of business experience and, as a result, have all the t-shirts – very few that still fit!!!
For me, the best part about working at the Growth Hub is:
Meeting a wide variety of businesses and finding ways to help them.
Each day is different. Life can be a bit like plate-spinning but it is very motivating seeing a client business achieve their goals with just a little help from me.
When it’s my turn to buy the biscuits, I’m choosing:
Abernathy (because everyone else will be eating the chocolate hobnobs)
The person I most admire is:
(Both) my children, James & Jess.
They followed different paths in life and, despite having me as a father, have both developed into happy, well rounded adults, each successful in their own way and now giving advice (not always taken) to their old man.
I was going to list my favourite rock musicians but there were too many to name, all influential in their own way too.
In life, I’m inspired by:
So many people – you don’t know what you don’t know so taking advice or guidance is essential.
To be honest, my father was a massive influence on me and although he is no longer with us, I’m still very much influenced by his approach to people and to business.
His astute observations about me, and what I did, continue to inspire me.
A little known fact about me is:
I was (and still am, secretly,) a plane spotter and once got arrested walking on to an RAF fighter base in Scotland. I think security will be a lot tighter these days.
Back then (I was 16, I think, because they still had biplanes), I was in the RAF cadets and so my warrant card got me out of trouble that day and got me a pass as a guest of the station commander!!!
