Brixworth-based reusable nappy firm Bambino Mio is aiming for further growth after securing a European grant to expand its facilities.

Bambino Mio was approved for the £50,000 grant from the Ready2Grow project to help finance the expansion of office space costing £100,000. It will also lead to the creation of more than 10 new jobs and help to secure the long-term future of the existing workforce.

Bambino Mio has expanded its sales globally in the past two years – citing digital marketing and the help provided by Northamptonshire Growth Hub as pivotal in their development.

Founded and run by husband and wife Guy and Jo Schanschieff, the business’ turnover increased by 100% in 2015 and by a further 70% in 2016, with export turnover last year also increasing by 70%.

As well as selling in traditional nursery outlets, supermarkets and online retailers, Bambino Mio  sells directly to consumers via their website to as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA and Canada as well as numerous European countries.

Guy Schanschieff, Managing Director says:

“In the past couple of years we’ve seen huge growth in sales overseas which has helped our overall turnover enormously.

“The support provided by the Growth Hub has enabled access to funding which will be put towards projects that will ensure the company maximises growth potential as quickly as possible.

“Northamptonshire Growth Hub talked us through all of the funding options available, and were a fantastic sounding board for our strategy and vision.”

By replicating their digital marketing strategy in key international markets, this has allowed Bambino Mio to recruit new customers in key and emerging markets to this niche product category.

In 2016 website sales increased by 255%, with social media platforms such as Instagram also growing by 238%. Bambino Mio’s global social reach is now nearing 100,000 followers.

Mark McGowan, Business Adviser at Northamptonshire Growth Hub, is delighted with the company’s growth:

“Bambino Mio’s expansion is a real success story for the county, where a small business run by a couple has undergone rapid expansion and now has a truly global reach.

“This is just the sort of business that our Ready2Grow project can support, by providing the know-how so that businesses with great products can maximise their potential.”
